The Water Cycle focuses on Mono Lake, one million years-old and the oldest continually existing lake in North America. Since 1941, much of the lake's water has been diverted to Los Angeles, over 300 miles to the south.

As part of a two-decade-long campaign to save the lake, committed bicyclists make a six-day pilgrimage from L.A. every summer. The history of water wars, underlying issues of resource use, development, and individual action are all examined. Study guide included.
