Mega-Cities illustrates nine creative solutions for urban problems put forth by the Planning Group of the Los Angeles Mega-Cities Project. By the year 2000, more than half of the world's population will live in cities. It is projected that 23 of these cities will be "mega-cities" with more than 10 million people each.

Despite their varying political, economic, social and cultural characteristics, all of them face a common problem. Cities must be viable for unprecedented numbers of citizens, yet function within limited budgets and severe environmental constraints. Here we see urban leadership programs which teach neighborhood activists to replicate successful projects and to incorporate them into urban policy. The Planning Group has field site teams in 20 cities on five continents and is a leader in innovative solutions to urban problems. Descriptions and locations of projects included.
